It's pretty damn quiet...

But if you can get a car, you can get out and have a little fun.

30 minutes north of Orem is Salt Lake City. There are a dozen or so good dance clubs there... most serve alcohol ( if that's your thing ). Any establishment that isn't a restaurant that serves alcohol needs to register as a "private club for members"... which means that to get in, there's bound to be a small cover charge. SLC also is home to the Tower Theatre and her sister the Broadway Theatre ( www.towertheatre.com ), which are our two art film houses. There is also Temple Square ( map: www.lds.org/images/event...plesquare.gif ) ... which is a quiet oasis in the very center of town, and it's Utah's most popular tourist attraction.

15 minutes east of Orem is the Sundance Resort ( www.sundanceresort.com ) --- home to Robert Redford --- it's not exactly the night life you're wanting, but it's definitely worth a mention.

Continue past Sundance, and 30 more minutes up through the canyon is Park City ( www.parkcityinfo.com/dining ).

5 minutes south of Orem is BYU ( www.byu.edu )... where night life is altogether non-existent. Unless you want art or theatre... and you can get information on theatres and performing groups by clicking on "Arts & Museums" from the home page.

A couple of general comments: the area around Orem ( from Salt Lake City, over to Park City, and down to Provo ) is just _littered_ with great restaurants and local theatre. If you're interested in the restaurants, check out Zagat's guides ( www.zagat.com ), whose guide to dining in Utah is available from the pull-down menu at the top of their home page. My favorite restaurant in Utah is actually Bombay House, which is in Provo ( 5 minutes south of Orem )... it's the very best Indian food I've had on two continents. If you'd like theatre, there're the stage theatres ( Hale has one in <a Orem ( www.haletheater.com ) and another in SLC ( www.halecentertheater.com ) ), the amphitheaters ( Sundance has one, and there's the Scera ( www.scera.org ) in Orem ), and then there's the comedy and improv clubs ( Johnny B's in Provo ( www.johnnybscomedyclub.com ), Comedy Sportz in Provo ( www.comedysportzutah.com ), and a few whose names I've forgotten in SLC ( www.dexonline.com ) ).

Good luck! - Silus , posted 07/19/04
